Brother Oswi was a minor character in The Last Kingdom television series. He was a priest in service to Æthelred of Mercia.

Season 4[edit | edit source]

Avlesburv, Mercia; Æthelred is collecting all the bones of St. Oswald and using them as relics. He believes the people of Mercia will see it as a good omen and that he shall restore their lands to greatness. He has send monks, Brother Iestyn and Brother Oswi, who are leaving with silver to bargain for his heart. ("Episode 4.1")

Bebbanburg, Northumbria; Aidan’s gotten word that Æthelred of Mercia is sending monks to retrieve the heart of St. Oswald. However, Ælfric refuses to give it up. ("Episode 4.1")

Winchester, Wessex; Sable, Lady Æthelflæd's woman who works at Lord Æthelred's estate, tells Uhtred about the monks travelling up north to find get the relics of St. Oswald. Should Uhtred intercept these monks, he could gain entry into the mighty fortress. Later, Uhtred finds Finan, Osferth, and Sihtric in the stable and tells them of his plan to intercept the monks headed for Bebbanburg. ("Episode 4.1")

The Sea; Once on the boat, Young Uhtred questions the mission as Uhtred tells his son that his job will be to befriend the monks and gain access to Bebbanburg and then open the sea gates for them. ("Episode 4.2")

Grimsby, Northumbria; Uhtred, Finan, Osferth, and Sihtric enter a tavern were they claim that they’re simply traders taking pelts to Frankia,and are in search of women companionship. They are taken down into the dungeon, where the women are. There, they find the monks, Brother Oswi and Brother Iestyn receiving sexual favours. ("Episode 4.2")

Afterward, Uhtred, Finan, and Osferth follow the monks out. Uhtred instructs young Uhtred to follow the monks to Bebbanburg. He instructs Young Uhtred to take a horse and ride the road north, close to the shore, where he’ll find the monks and join them. ("Episode 4.2")

Northumbria; Young Uhtred lays and waits for the monks. Once he spots them, he walks over and warns them that the road is full of murderous thieves and then explains that he’s one of their number; a deacon cruelly kidnapped from his church. He asks to ride with them. Alone, he shall perish. He pleads with them and even threatens to reveal their sins in Grimsby. He asks for nothing but travelling companions. They reluctantly accept him. ("Episode 4.2")

Bebbanburg, Northumbria; Later, Young Uhtred, Brother Oswi, and Brother Iestyn arrive just outside Bebbanburg. They warn Young Uhtred that the lord, Ælfric, is merciless. Ælfric and Aidan greet them as they approach. Ælfric tells them to turn back as he has no desires to sell the heart of St. Oswald. Young Uhtred pleads with him, claiming that if nothing else, he wishes to see Bebbanburg. Ælfric welcomes them inside but tells Aidan to put them in the slave quarters. ("Episode 4.2")

During night time, the Young Uhtred has been captured by Wihtgar after he was caught wondering around. He suspects that Young Uhtred was trying to steal the relic away and demands to know why. Wihtgar orders all his men to the yard. Brother Oswi and Brother Iestyn are awakened from their sleep and held at knife point while Wihtgar tortures Young Uhtred for answers. When he can’t get the answers out of him, Wihtgar kills both of the monks. ("Episode 4.2")
