Oswald was a minor antagonist in both The Saxon Stories novel series, and The Last Kingdom television series. He was a steward at Lyscombe.

Season 1[]

Lyscombe, Wessex; Oswald welcomes Uhtred and Mildrith to Lyscombe. ("Episode 1.4")

Outside Wareham, Wessex; Months later, with the incoming group of Danes heading towards Wareham, Uhtred tells Oswald to get everyone out of Lyscombe, until the group passes through. ("Episode 1.4")

Lyscombe, Wessex; Uhtred returns to his home, and finds Oswald having having sex with a whore in his bed ("Better than barley"). She says that it was Oswald's idea, and that she was promised coin in return. Uhtred furiously tells Oswald that he will kill him if he treats him as a fool again. ("Episode 1.5")

Later, Uhtred confronts Oswald after he sees him dragging a felled tree to the lumber yard. Suspicious of Oswald pocketing a profit from timber that rightfully belongs to him, Uhtred questions him. Oswald flees, but he's not quick enough and is run down and trampled by Uhtred and his horse. ("Episode 1.5")
