Ice-Spite was a blade belonging to Cnut Longsword.

Cnut had always claimed that the blade, had been forged in a sorcerer's fire that burned colder than ice in the frost caverns of Hel. He said "she was a sword of the gods."[1] It was described as light, ivory-hilted, and glinting from silver in the blade. It had no decoration except for "Vlfberht" inscribed at the base of the hilt.

Eventually it was broken by Serpent-Breath in combat between Uhtred and Eardwulf.[2]

Trivia[]

  • According to Wikipedia: "The Ulfberht Swords are about 170 medieval swords found in Europe, dated to the 9th to 11th centuries, with blades inlaid with the inscription +VLFBERH+T or +VLFBERHT+. That word is a Frankish personal name that became the basis of a trademark of sorts, used by multiple bladesmiths for several centuries."
