Seven Kings Must Die[]

A number of years after the Battle of Bebbanburg, King Constantin remains at peace with England, having ultimately upheld the treaty that Uhtred had brokered between Constantin and Edward. When Edward dies of an illness, Constantin is more interested in seeing if Æthelstan will uphold the treaty than in joining King Anlaf's army in conquering England, refusing repeated attempts by Domnal to join the growing pagan army.

After Æthelstan begins an invasion of Scotland, Constantin joins forces with the Danish army, believing that he has been left with no other choice. The six Danish armies meet the English army, commanded by Uhtred and Æthelstan at the Battle of Brunanburh. While the Danes at first appear to have the upper hand, a surprise flanking attack led by Osbert turns the tide of battle in favor of the English and Domnal is killed by Sihtric with the other Danish kings losing their heirs as well.

Retreating from the field of battle, Constantin and the other devastated Danish kings abandon further conflict despite Anlaf's pleas to continue fighting with Constantin pointing out that there's nothing left to fight for. When Anlaf asks for a ship to get back home, a disgusted Constantin walks away without a word.
